Shopaholic Personal Style: LA Edition

I have been away from my blog for a while and I have missed you guys! I have been busy trying to finish up my portfolio for Thee Shopaholic Styled Me, and I can not wait to share that and more news with you. I took a quick girls trip to LA. I had fun in the sun and dressed for the occasion.

One of my favorite pieces from my trip was this yellow lace dress from HM Trend. This dress is beautiful and I love yellow pieces, especially in the summertime. But if I am being totally honest I don’t like the fact that I was having issues with the zipper. I think for the $129 price tag they could have put more effort into the quality. The zipper kept coming down throughout the day and I eventually had to just change. I had to drop the dress off at the tailor for the zipper to be replaced.

I took a trip to the Standard Hotel Pool. I had been itching to wear my favorite fringe bathing suit. I paired it with a floral beach cover from Forever 21. The pool was so dope and I saw Les Twins playing table tennis and felt like I fit right in.

This whimsical piece is also from HM. I went on a Hollohwood Tour to see the sign and wanted something light and breezy. I paired the look with my tourist white nike sneakers and my kashmirviii clutch.

There was a full on heatwave in California and I wanted to have lightweight fabrics that had a lot of movement. This chambray denim dress from Forever 21 was perfect. I went for a quick brunch at Aroma and then headed downtown for a day at the museum. I decided to Dust of my personalized clutch from my girl HerStyleByFashion.

On our last night in LA we had a fancy dinner outing and I decided tocolor-block. I had a green jumpsuit I purchased from Tick-Tock clothing boutique earlier this year. I paired the look with a pair of orange pumps, a matching clutch and tassel earrings.

I had a blast in LA! I hope you enjoyed my looks because I had fun wearing them. I have a lot more to share from my trip. I got the most questions about my outfits so I decided to start there. Until next time. Happy Shopping!

VH 1 Honors a Queen

Queen Latifah is a hip hop pioneer. If you have been living under a rock you probably don’t know about the laundry list of life accomplishments. Tonight she was honored by VH 1 for some of those accomplishments.

People got an exclusive with the queen and the campaign looks amazing! The leather and gold looks absolutely regal on her and very fitting for her self proclaimed title.

I can’t wait to see what else Queen Latifah has on her list of life contributions to the world of fashion, beauty and hip hop. This is an unlikely combination but she carries all three hats and several others, with elegance grace and style.

Cocktails With Claire NewYork

So I attended this year’s installment of Cocktails with Claire, hosted by Claire Sulmers and Miss Diddy LA. The panel was rich with guest speakers like Yandy Smith (Love and Hip Hop), Ty Hunter (Celeb Wardrobe Stylist), Angela Yee (Radio Personality) and countless more.

I was finally able to sample brunch bites from Chef Jeff Catering and business partner Tasia (Master Decorator). The chicken and waffles, French toast, mini sliders, and Mac and cheese were all so memorable! I would not know how to describe the flavor you just had to be there! SO GOOD!

One of the most interesting parts of attending these networking events for me is meeting new people and creating new bonds with like-minded fashionistas. This purple haired beauty is a radio personality Angel White from Rochester, NY and drove down to get advice from the entertainment panel.

It is always good to connect with people we see at these events all year long and catch up away from social media. We get to have a meeting of the minds and talk about how we can collaborate our efforts to make our individual business better.

This was a fashion driven event and the attendees did not skimp on style! I loved this monochromatic look on Avielle Amor (beauty blogger and YouTube content creator). The sun coming over the lofts roof top made for an awesome outfit post.

Staff writer for Fashion Bomb Daily Marsha Badger looked amazing in white and later changed into a sleek black outfit for the second half of the festivities.

There were tons of vendors at the second half of the event. The sip and shop had body care products like Skin Buttr (pictured above) and fashion and accessories as well.

Fashion, Style and all they have to offer! Which of these looks is your favorite! They look like an amazing girl group, I promise this was not planned! But these ladies looked amazing.

During the break I ventured into midtown Manhattan for a quick wardrobe change for MUA Ace more fondly known as Delightful Ace. We decided to go for a quick monochromatic look to match the cobalt blue heels she wore to part one of Cocktails with Claire.

I think it’s safe to say that the matching set and monochrome was the theme of the night as Sammy B (wardrobe designer) attended Cocktails in one of her latest designs. We talked a little about what was coming in the future for her collection. I can’t wait to see what she does next.

Black Girl Magic was also present at Saturday’s event and I was glad to catch up with the girls.

What I wore:

Crop Top & Pants : ZARA

Necklace : ALDO Accessories

Shoes: Shoemint (Years Ago)

I have included the rest of the pics from the event below for you to browse through. If Cocktails with Claire comes to your city you might want to check it out!

Sheer Genius

I don’t know who we have to blame for the onset of the sheer trend, but I am not complaining. I am anticipating a quick trip to California and I decided to get a couple of new pieces to add to my current wardrobe for the warm West Coast climate.

This risqué sheer maxi dress is amazing. Unfortunately this Nasty Gal piece has long since sold out on the website but J would love for someone to find one for me on the inter webs.

Nasty Gal “I’ll take that Net Ruffle Dress – $98. SOLD OUT

If you want to add a bit of feminine flair to your sheer look I say opt for this picture perfect polka dot ensemble. A few pops of red would be ideal. I think I’ll do a top knot with this to finish the look. I can’t wait to Add this to cart!

Love Risqué “Spot On” – $58.24

Whether you like Ruffles, spots or just like to keep it plain and simple I think everyone should try this sheer trend. Even if you feel a dress or matching set is a bit over the top you can still try just the top or bottom. I would love to know how you feel about this trend, let’s talk about it in the comments below.

Until next time… Happy Shopping.

Shopaholic Cart Confession: Red Sandals

No one loves a red sandal more than me. Ever since the Birkenstock has been added to the women’s fashion trend I have been in love with the masculine style red sandal for the ladies. Last summer I purchased the Red Dr. Martens. I was sent these sandals by a friend and fell in love.

They are a men’s shoe but are perfect for casual summer style for either sex. If you have a shoe size smaller than a 9 ladies unfortunately this may not work for you. If you are looking for a comparable style let me know in the comments and I will recommend some variations.

I will definitely be abusing these this summer and can’t wait to show you how I style them. The People Footwear Lennon Chiller sandals are definitely a must have. They are also the perfect gift for your mister.

Let me know in the comments… Would you wear these?

March Madness: Seven Deadly Spends

I have been demonstrating a lot of restraint when it comes to my impulse shopping. I have been busy shopping for other people; as I am still heavily working on Thee Shopaholic Styled Me. Recently I have been browsing the stores to see the coming trends for this Spring. I have combined seven pieces that I’ve purchased or added to my summer wish list. The best part… there’s enough time for you to get your hands on them as well.

HM Dress – $19.90 (Sold Out online but still available in participating H&M stores)

This flowy dress in a bright coral is perfection! This affordable dress is definitely a must have for a stellar summer wardrobe. Pair it with bright yellow, white or neutral hues. I love the off-the-shoulder detailing but as a woman with a bigger bust I appreciate the thick straps to cover a bra or bathing suit. The tassels were probably another strong selling point for me as this trend is going to be everywhere this year.

Kat Maconie Thea Aztec Leather Heel – $290

These shoes are not for someone who is shy with style. Whether you like simple silhouettes with killer statement accessories or just love bold colors and out loud style you can appreciate this piece. These color block heels have a lot of personality. They are a bit pricey so you first have to determine if they are worth the investment. If it’s a trend for you I say don’t get them. But if the only reason is that you have nothing like it I say Buy!

Lace up barely there heeled sandals – $42.50
If you like more traditional footwear maybe this pair is more you’re speed. I love a good red shoe and these strappy heels are a great wardrobe staple. They don’t require too much instruction in terms of styling because when done consciously, these sandals can literally be worn with anything.

   Lantos – $70

I am not a fan of clutches and small purses, but in the summer no one wants a huge leather bag sticking to the side of your body and wrinkling that coral dress we got a few paragraphs ago… I prefer a structured bag nowadays and this egg colored piece with gold hardware is right up my alley. It also comes in a black option which I think is more practical for someone like me who is more prone to accidents. Either decision is great in my book.

Alize – $70

No summer wardrobe is complete without a pair of flats. The particulars are totally personal preference but I love this strappy number. In the office they can add interest to a cropped cigarette trouser or sheath dress. If your fair-skinned I say go for the nude option when your tan comes in they will look amazing.

Long Vest – $69.99

If you have been keeping up with the blog you probably already know how I feel about black items. They have to be interesting in a way that does not relate to their color, or in this case abscence of color. I love this vest because of the myriad of fabrics. This can add a smart flare to a whimsical outfit or pair it with those black flats and a crisp white shirt dress and a red lip for a spring brunch.

Puma Sneakers – $180

I Almost never talk about sneakers but it has been a while since last we spoke so I figured I would add an item to change the pace a little. Rihanna has launched yet another collaboration sneaker with Puma and I have to say that I am intrigued. These red faux high tops are dope and totally gender neutral. I love that Puma is going against the popular sneaker silhouettes and I think it’s that quaintly that draws me to the brand.
If you’re still here I appreciate you for letting me justify this shopaholic confession. I would love to hear what you would purchase, have purchased or can’t wait to share with a friend. Until next time Happy Shopping.

Thee Shopaholic Styled Me: Woman in the Jungle

I was feeling rather inspired to curate a tribal inspired photo shoot. I love melanin rich models and had to put something together using some pieces from my favorite designer Kira Nacole. Her pieces definitely drove the vision I had for this style story.

I knew I wanted over the top makeup and gathered examples to show the makeup artist at the studio. I gave her a rough draft of how I wanted to girls to look but gave her free reign to create something that was her own.

I loved the juxtaposition of the tribal markings and the delicate fabrics that were custom made by Kira. The beautiful models just pulled everything together to make the vision a reality.

Some of you may remember the first installment of tribal fashion editorials that I put together about a year ago. I wanted to take another stab at the looks to see how much my creativity had evolved. The previous story was a lot darker and more raw. Makeup wasn’t deliberate and I feel it gave a more eery feel to the final look.

If I were a woman in the jungle I would probably dress something like this. This was my take on tribal street style with an editorial flair. I had a lot of fun creating this style story and I have so much more to share with you guys.

I have a bunch of images to add to my portfolio  and maybe when they are done I will come back and show you which ones made the final cut.

I absolutely love melanin and I hope you enjoyed the images that I shared today. Until next time… happy shopping.

Shopaholic Personal Style

I was asked to be a guest speaker at a NYFWmixer last week. Avielle Amor asked me to attend her New York coming out party of you will and speak briefly about fashion and style. The focus was gear towards being stylish with short natural hair without concealing it.

A lot of times as a fellow naturalista we tend to conceal our hair for special events and wear a wig or braids when we are going on a date or interview. I want you all to know this is not the case. It is absolutely possible to be fashionable and wear a dress and heels with a short natural coif.

I had no idea what to wear to the event myself and ended up pairing a green jumpsuit with a floral duster. I loved how it turned out and decided to share my outfit with you guys along with a quick recap of the event.

I was so excited to see Erica (Glamzmore) in attendance along with a lot of beautiful sisters who came to show Avielle love.
I also styled Avielle for the event in this Nasty Gal cape sleeve mini dress and gold sandals.i personally think she looked beautiful especially with her short tapered fro.

I purchased my jumpsuit from a local Queens Boutique by the name of Tick Tock. The sleeveless jumpsuit was paired with a floral duster I picked up from the Trend section of H&M. I added a statement necklace with similar tones and a simple tan pointed heel to finish the look.

I was so happy to have some of my friends come out to support me in my first event as a speaker. I look forward to more events like this in the coming year and hope you enjoyed. If you were able to attend or are sad that you missed the event j would love to hear about it in the comeents below. Until next time, Happy Shopping.

Career Building and Social Media: Conversation

I had the pleasure of being asked to speak on the topic of entrepreneurship. Being a business minded individual in a big city can be quite difficult and I was excited to be chosen to speak on it. Myself along with three other ladies were asked to speak on Kadiatou Sylla’s platform. The final edit goes up today and I just wanted to share some great information with my readers.

We touched on the topic of not being discouraged by other social media stars. Not everyone is who they “post to be.” I won’t disclose too much info because I really want you guys to watch the video. I had a blast and the ladies dropped some serious nuggets of knowledge on the couch.

K. Sylla was the lovely host of this conversation and she really touched on important issues in the business community. We all want to network and be the moguls of tomorrow. I appreciate her for starting this dialogue and I hope you guys will continue to talk about it in the comments.

Marsha Badger | Blogger and Writer has a blog called Marsh Bar’s Closet she is always creating content and behind the scenes of some of our favorite celebs. She added an uplifting and positive insight into the world of business and how to stand out.

Kerry Walters | Skincare and Beauty Specialist. Kerry was a woman of few words but her colorful style and insight could not be forgotten. I can not wait to see all of us put our words into action to propel our careers forward this year. Her lifestyle blog is the perfect place to get ideas on new products to try to get perfect skin.

Ace Watson | Makeup Artist & Motivational Speaker. Delightful Ace as she is more commonly known talked about achieving the ultimate end goal and not worrying so much about the journey. People don’t often share the pit of their day. As humans we tend to share the highlights and she didn’t want us to loose sight of that.

Jessica Thee Shopaholic | Wardrobe Stylist. You guys should all know this lady by now. If you want to know what I had to say you’re just going to have to watch over at www.ksylla.com. I hope this inspires you to pursue your own dreams. I would love to know what you thought of it and if you would like to see more in the future. Until next time… Happy Shopping.

Saint Records and Mixed Prints

I have really been feeling uninspired at the kick off of this year in fashion. I did not attend any of the New York Fashion Week shows I was invited to. If you follow my social media you probably know I have been knee deep in completing my new portfolio and it has kind of taken over my life. There is one person who consistently inspires me to try new things in fashion and that individual is Solange Knowles.

Solange always dons the most unique fashion wears and I would love a day to play in her wardrobe. She constantly pairs the most tailored fabrics in bold and trendy colors and has a knack for pairing bold prints. Ever since she cut off all her hair she has really been on top of the fashion conversations.

If I could model my wardrobe after her I would do so because I have a shared love for color. If you go through countless images of the songstress you won’t find much black. I believe that the tailoring of the garments polish the look and make them chic.

I definitely love the flair of her style. There aren’t many people that can pull off these bold looks. Her makeup is always super simple and enhances her natural beauty in every sense of the word. Only Knowles can wear head to toe green without looking like a potted plant.

I love the overly structured details paired with the bold patterns. I would love to try to recreate some looks inspired by some of her best fashion accomplishments.

Solange is definitely a fashion icon and I can’t wait to watch as her fashion sense evolves. I have included some more of my favorite looks below for you to look through. I would love to know who your favorite fashion icons are in the comment section please share who inspires you to experiment with style.
