Unclutchable

I have been eyeing the Love, Cortnie clutches for a very long time. I am extremely picky and indecisive when it comes to handbags. If you’re following me on Instagram (@thee_shopaholic) you will know that I mentioned wanting to expand my bag collection. I asked if my followers had any recommendations and someone again referenced Cortnie.

I take a lot of chances with fashion choices. I don’t take style too seriously. Trends are always changing. But I am really conscious of my choices when it comes to accessories. Bags and shoes- when made well- have the ability to travel through several seasons. If you care for your accessories properly, they have the ability to last a lifetime.

Cortnie is a blogger and handbag designer. I have always admired her work. Her genuine leather bags always seem well made and thoughtfully planned out. There’s literally a bag for everyone. And if you’re like me and you can’t decide; she lets you create your own!

I decided to go with a white clutch because I felt  that it is very important to have a non-color (besides black) especially in the spring and summer. Our outfits tend to be more colorful and printed during these seasons. Our outerwear has been removed and it can get expensive trying to find an accessory to match each look. I am definitely a lover of print. I didn’t want to lose the interest in the monotone so I decided to add some texture.

Cortnie added this embossed croc leather to a smaller bag a while back and I thought it would be a perfect addition to my simple clutch design. In true shopaholic fashion I added the spotted calf hair tassel (it wouldn’t be me if it wasn’t spotted). The tassel can be removed and add spice to any of my existing bags so that was an added bonus.

She also let me chose every detail including the lining! I went with white lining as well but added a print for the days when I didn’t want to utilize the tassel. I love everything about the bag.

In true love Cortnie fashion there was a quarter inside. I love the novelty and if you are familiar with the saying you know why I am going to keep it there. The clutch was made well. Her craftsmanship clean and perfected. She does great work and I was glad to get the opportunity to witness it first hand.

I would love to hear what you think about my decision. I think the design collaboration was successful and I can’t wait to purchase from her again!

Trend Spotting

I had a very chilled Sunday in Brooklyn and I decided to shoot a quick Outfit of the Day. I love prints and I love color so this colorful leopard jumpsuit was right up my alley! I paired it with a comfortable block heeled lace up sandal and a bright clutch. The summer sun in Dumbo was the perfect back drop.

The outfit was very bold. This was perfect for my new funky frohawk. I enjoyed a quick brunch in Williamsburg and headed downtown by the promenade for popular shopping and a nice walk. I love the architecture in Williamsburg. Every corner was a perfect back drop for a great photo!

The streets in Brooklyn are beautiful; especially in the summer. I love coming down just to people watch. The city can be so peaceful on Sunday afternoons when people aren’t rushing off to work and school.

Lets get down to business I know you guys are here for the details. Every great outfit has great accessories. I paired my Jumpsuit with this statement necklace from H&M. The piece isn’t listed on the website, but feel free to check your local flagship H&M location to find it. The clutch I have had for about a year or so and it is from an online boutique called ROXX.

My heels are also from ROXX and were also purchased last summer.

The jumpsuit is so comfortable and a lot of you have already mentioned purchasing it and wearing it this past week! Like the necklace this Jumpsuit is not listed on the H&M website but you should not have a problem finding it in your local H&M stores. I purchased it recently but they were going fast.

I hope you enjoyed this quick Outfit. I would love to hear what you guys did this weekend! Feel free to leave a comment below and tell me what you did! Until next time.

No Basics Brunch: Print Edition

I had the pleasure of attending the third installment of the No Basics Brunch, hosted by Damon, Ty Hunter and Claire Sulmers. I love print and I love bold colors! I was super excited to find that the theme the hosts chose for this particular event was just that! Everyone at the brunch looked amazing and this is just a quick recap of some of my favorite looks.

As I mentioned before the event hosts (above) choose a theme for each brunch event. The theme from this event was print; specifically African prints. Damon wore suit by Kehinde Wiley, Claire wore a beautiful set from Doku’s online market place and Ty wore pants from Midget Giraffe and a neckpiece from Zuvaa. They definitely exemplified why they are leaders in fashion.

I know it may be hard to identify but if you will remember my feature from the first brunch you will be able to see Melenigma’s gorgeous face. She was serving “You can’t sit with us”realness at the brunch with this oversized sun hat from H&M paired effortlessly with shiny gold androgynous shoes! One of my favorite looks of the day! I had to share.

I mostly attend Saturday brunch to catch up with friends. I always like to keep up with what’s going on with people and see if I can help in anyway. The fashion and beauty world can be closed and hard for people. Brunch is a good way to tighten your network of friends and build stronger relationships.

I love to meet new friends and catch up with old friends. You would be surprised how you can meet someone in another town or city and share similar interests and zip codes.  The No Basics is a place for fashion minds and unique style to be showcased. It may seem awkward to be different in the business world. But here being different is celebrated.

I love to see women of color, who are entrepreneurs that can socialize and do positive things… together!

Sometimes you get trapped in social media and being “plugged-in” can be a good thing. Nothing beats meeting in real life and building relationships.

Style brought us together.

But our personalities make us friends… Until the next brunch… See you guys later.

Acting on Impulse II

If you have been following the blog for a while, you will know that I spoke about impulse buying months ago. I really don’t like to do it because often I get home and regret buying something. The magical lights in retail settings can play tricks on you and make you feel like you need something when you don’t. I really have to make clear decisions especially when it comes to shoes because I wear a larger size. They do not produce too many of the “special” sizes in the fashion world. Size 5 and size 11’s are normally produced in rare quantities. So when it comes to shoes that I really love I just shoot first and ask questions later.

After leaving the office today I stumbled into my favorite IG boutique and local retailer ROXX. I usually go in there once in a while to see their new arrivals and I was pleasantly surprised when I found these Tassel heels. They come in two different options but I had to get the black and multi pair. I can’t wait to wear them this summer! I had to come and share them with you while they were still fresh and available to purchase! If you get them let me know! I would also love to see the pics on Instagram so be sure to tag me!

Shopaholic Style Directory: Mirza

Mirza is a human being, that believes in the power of self and the abilities of each individual human being. He is a lover of all, of God’s creations and believes that we can all coexist in peace.

I askedMirza if he considers himself a shopaholic…

“I do not consider myself a shopaholic, because then I would be admitting to being addicted to shopping. I can walk into a store and just simply browse without it having any effect  on my shopping desires. My shopping extends to the back of the stores to look at the sale rack heavily in every store. I love the seven dollar sweaters, ten dollar jeans and five dollar t shirts.”

Mirza believes that every season carries it’s own energy and colors. He appreciates every season for the style and trends that they bring. Spring and summer stand out the most I his opinion. His style is comfortable, and he believes the comfort directly relates to wearing less during the warmer months. ” I appreciate light jackets, oversized sweaters, jean shorts, crew necks etc. my style is more about what I have to bring to the table besides the clothes.” He also feels that accessories play a role and things like a good book, or a nice wallet and sunglasses, beaded necklaces and his camera are useful accessories.

When I asked him where he loves to shop, he first talked about his love of making clothes and garment stores where he could find fabric to make his pieces. As far as retail is concerned H&M clothing fits him well and ZARA because of their store etiquette. The open space and clutter free environment are to his liking. I can’t help but agree.

As far as trends go Mirza favors oversized tops and being comfortable. “I feel everyone has the right to express themselves  and I enjoy seeing creation in every way. Trends are a way to express yourself in your own way and I encourage everyone to use trends  as a tool to bring out your own look, not just rock the trend the same way everyone else is.”

Style Directory Question of the month:

Shopaholic:

You are traveling out of state to a style conference and the airline has lost your luggage. Your company has given you $200 to purchase an outfit for the presentation as well as something to change into for a dinner party that evening. Where would you go and what would you buy?

 Mirza:

Shoes and a tie from Macy*s because you can always find something proper there on sale. Suit I would most likely put something together from ZARA and H&M. Jacket and shirt H&M and the pants from ZARA. Evening dinner party would have to be Forver21 Men; single serving store. Everything in there almost always serves a single purpose, but you can always find something that will fit the purpose.

I ended this quick interview by asking him how he balances his personal life and his business, and which of the two takes up the most of his time. He lovingly responded, stating that his personal life was his business. “I am constantly learning. I am a father and I think that takes up the largest percentage of my week. If I cannot be myself in the business that I am in, then I have no business being in it.”

I chose Mirza as a fitting individual for this style directory feature because he is a true style director. He is a free spirit and a unique style creator. I was glad that he allowed me to share a part of his style with all of you. I also decided to give a different take on this interview do let me know if you like this delivery better than the previous entries. Until next time, be true to yourself and own your style.
