June’s Closet Cleansing: June Ambrose

June Ambrose hosted her second Annual Closet clear-out in New York this weekend. I missed the first one last year and swore it would never happen again! I had a blast chatting with the fashion force and shopping through her past fashion choices.

Ambrose, costume designer, celebrity stylist and author of Effortless Style is well known to the fashion world as the Muva of style. More recently June has brought us collections of her own fashion via HSN. When she announced that she was having another closet cleanse, I had to head down to see what I could get my hands on.

If you were not aware of the sale you must live under a social rock with no wifi connection! June made several announcements leading up to the sale date via her social media platforms. Several of my fashion friends also made me aware of the sale via word-of-mouth.

The fashion Muva also left hints as the days got closer as to specific items that would be available during the sale.

Once I arrived at the boutique location I was not surprised to find that there was an enthusiastic line filled with fashionistas ready to shop!

I was also excited to see that June’s most precious bug, daughter Summer Hope Chamblin was present and selling refreshing organic lemonade and cupcakes fashioned after mini hamburgers.

After supporting the young entrepreneur-ess and purchasing drinks for all of my friends I was definitely ready to shop.

I was also excited to see familiar faces on the line.

Once inside I found June to be such a gracious host. She was personable and made the time to speak to and assist everyone with their purchases and final decisions.

When I spied these Gold Gladiators from her HSN collection I just knew I had to have them. They are a great decorative piece to put up in my room and I am sure I will be able to use them to style upcoming shoots.

I also wanted to get one werable piece that I would be able to take out and about. I love this pewter bag also from her collection. I wore it out in to the city today and received lots of compliments.

I am so glad I was able to attend this years closet cleansing and look forward to more in the future!

I am happy with my purchases!

I’m happy June was able to share this experience with her June Bugs and let us shop her past.

Great Food.

Great drinks.

Great Fashion.   Signing out from the Juniverse.  Until next time… Happy Shopping!

Back to School Lookbook

Autumn is just around the corner! We are all trying to squeeze in the last few beach days… But before  you know it the summer will be long gone. I know some states have already gone back to the books. This blog is for my shopaholics who will be going back to highschool, back to college and back to work in September. I have done one of these in the past so feel free to reference my Back To School Essentials from last year along with this one.

If you are a student and comfortable chic is your goal then this style formula is perfect for you. Sweaters and cargo pants never go out of style. But in order to make the look a bit more stylish stick to one color family and add n interesting shoe or sneaker. Leopard print is the new nude: however, a red or bright pink sneaker will be just as effective. This look is perfect for the classroom.

You can never go wrong with a white t shirt and jeans. I styled this turtleneck body suit and highwaisted denim pants with a black and white sneaker and a simple red hat. This outfit is effortless but will have your classmates thinking you don’t belong in school but on a runway somewhere. This is also perfect for a date night with your beaux that you haven’t seen all summer.

This third look is definitely for my fashionistas. This is for the girl who values fashion over comfort. This look is extra simple. All black never goes out of style. It can be easily transformed by finding a black and white printed flat instead of a heel. For all my college fashion, merchandising and design majors this is definitely a look to try for the fall.

These last two looks are for my teachers. Your summer sabbatical is coming to a close. Being a teacher does not mean you have to sacrifice your style in the least. People respect women in power when they dress the part. Simple knits in neutral colors will have you looking your best while sitting at the front of the room. If your figure is more suggestive the sleeveless duster is perfect for keeping the look work room appropriate.

This last look is a bit more accessoried; but will still be appropriate for your students. This is for the teacher who has a lunch date I between lectures or a dinner with the husband after work. Add a chunky necklace and a printed clutch for an easy transition from the work room to the dinner table.

I hope you ladies enjoyed the looks please let me know which ones you can’t wait to try. Remember to study the concept and not the individual pieces when shopping for your fall closet. Happy Shopping!

The QUEEN SERIES Extravaganza

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the first annual Queen Series Extravaganza. This was a women’s empowerment conference held by three fabulous women of The Queen Collective. Formed in January of 2015 in Brooklyn New York, The Queen Collective was joined by Jessica Edouard, Denequa Williams And Dazia Wallerson. These women are all African/Caribbean-American writers and community activists dedicated to the empowerment of disadvantaged communities in the grater New York area.

The purpose of the Queen Series is to initiate the conversation about womanhood. The goal is to spark consciousness about systems of discrimination and self-worth. These women opened up the floor for women to speak freely about their fears and struggles in becoming a black woman in America.

The event, hosted by the beautiful Endeshia Bryan began at twelve on Saturday afternoon. There were two key note speakers, Keisha Charmaine youtuber and CEO of Love Light Locs; and Ieasha Ramsay, Published wardrobe stylist philanthropist and New York based Jill of all trades. These women gave inspiring insight to things that have helped them along their journeys of self acceptance and success in a modern world.

The night wasn’t all about business as we did have the pleasure of being blessed with some talent. I sat and listened to a beautiful song from talented singer and song writer and a spoken word piece from Briana. I shared the full videos on my Facebook page of both performances. Both of the pieces tied in beautifully to the theme of the evening. Oya’s 6am (song) and Brianna’s  Honest (spoken word) were clearly inspired by self empowerment and self acceptance.

You guys know that I love to shop and there were definitely fabulous items to purchase at the event. There were several vendor tables and fashion, right up my alley. I was happy to find that all were local black owned businesses that catered to products that we all use everyday.

Every good event has prizes to give away to their attendees and this event was no different. I was ready to purchase my raffle ticket and had one specific prize in mind. There was a beautiful tribal beaded necklace that was handmade in Kenya. This piece was donated by a local sponsor “Tafari Tribe Shop.” I purchased my raffle ticket as soon as I arrived and kept my fingers crossed.

There were other prizes being raffled as well but I had tunnel vision for this beautiful statement necklace. It was time to select the winner for the necklace and i tried my best to keep my spirits positive and my bag ready to be filled.

I didn’t end up winning the necklace; however, I was so happy for the winner as it was her birthday and she had sang a beautiful song earlier that day. That was more than luck and I am glad she was blessed on her special day. Each guest went home with their own gift bag and I would have loved to share images but unfortunately my bag was stolen by another guest at the event, but from what I did see the gift bag was packed with hair and beauty products.

The event could not be complete without food! I would have shared a photo but I was too busy stuffing my face. I will say that there might have been, macaroni and cheese, barbecue chicken, fried chicken, cocktail patties, rice, sangria, and rum punch, if alcohol does not thrill you you may have tried the delicious coconut water; to say the least. I will not go on as I am sure I have made someone hungry. This event was packed with food, shopping, inspiration, giveaways and good fun.

It would not be a true Shopaholic event post without sharing my fashion favorites of the night! I won’t go into detail about the individual looks as this post is already super long… I will just share the images here for you to admire.

These women did a great job putting this event together. This was a free event and I had more fun than I have had at somem really expensive events in the past! I look forward to wiring with these ladies again very soon and I look forward to the next annual Queen Series Extravaganza!

Shopaholic Cart Confessions: Target Style

The summer is almost over. Most of my shopaholics are preparing for fall fashion and back to school. I found some great buys at Target, sure to keep you on trend for the autumn season. Target has a great selection of shoes right now and I had to pick up my personal favorites and add them to my cart.

Women’s Doris Footbed Sandal – $12.48 to $24.99

The first pair I picked up were on sale! These metallic flats are super chic and less than ten bucks. They are perfect for those weekend getaways once it starts to get cool and you decide to retreat to a warmer climate. I always wear sandals on the plane. Pair them with sweats and a warm duster coat and you are ready for the mile high fashion club.

The next pair of flats are definitely needed if you work in an office setting or you just really love a good loafer. Every shopaholic should have a pair of black flats. The pointed silhouette is definitely where shoe fashion is headed this year and Target hit the nail on the head.

Women’s Holly Loafers – $24.99

You should never compromise your style for the office. I love to wear jumpsuits and sheath dresses all year round. They are no fuss pieces that do not require much styling. A navy jumpsuit paired with a simple timepiece and office bag would definitely compliment these shoes. If your environment is a bit more conservative you can throw on a blazer or cardigan once you get to your desk.

This would not be a proper shoe haul with out a good heel. Fall definitely calls for great warm neutrals that compliment your skintone. I went for a nude d’orsay pump. I love the understated sex appeal of side-foot-cleavage. If you guessed that Target style did it again you are correct!

Women’s Lainee D’Orsay Pumps – $29.99

The possibilities on styling this shoe are absolutely endless; however, I picked it up specifically for a casual date. These pumps are great paired with a neutral blouse and your favorite jeans. You can add your printed or textured clutch and your date will have no complaints. This outfit can be worn to dinner or brunch and the casual fit is balanced with a simple heel.

A fall shoe closet is not complete without a classic bootie. I never gravitate towards pointed shoes but this what’s my third pointy shoe find. I love the grips on the bottom because it gives them a casual, everyday feel. I don’t like too much detail on my boots. Simple cuts and styles make them a bit more flexible to wear and also allow them to carry over into different seasons and years to come.

Women’s Jan Zipper Block Heeled Booties – $37.99

I love to shop in boots during the fall. I would definitely pair these with black leather trousers and a simple v neck t shirt. Just add a trench coat and fedora to compete the look. This is perfect for a girls day out, a shopping trip and even another date night option.

Please be sure to let me know which outfit you are excited to try and which of the Target shoes you plan to purchase! Happy Shopping… From Target Style! Yours Truly Shopaholic Cart Confession.
