Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Stripe

I love to push the envelope when it comes to approaching everyday style. I get bored very easily so wearing things that are tricky to pull of are intriguing. If you have ever seen Beetle Juice or a vintage prison uniform you would probably never ever want to attempt this look. Fashion should be fun so I did just that.

Stripes are very tricky in general. Vertical stripes can be very slimming while horizontal stripes tend to make things look wider than they are. The key is knowing your body type. I am a true believer that there are no rules when it comes to fashion. There are however, some helpful guidelines that can help you look more visually appealing.

If you’re smaller on top then you want to wear your horizontal stripes on the top portion of your body and vice versa. If you have wide hips and you want to wear horizontal stripes then go for a thinner line pattern or one with alternating pinstripes. At the end of the day you look the best when you’re confident. If you love the way you look nothing else really matters.

If you think your outfit may or may not look like a prison uniform then give them a good pose and own it! Always put your best foot forward in fashion. Life is to short to wear boring clothes.

Depop Shop in Your Pocket

When you have as many clothes as I do you must constantly get rid of them to restore balance to the shopping universe. But this single digit weather is not a desirable circumstance for selling clothes on your front lawn. Maybe you don’t even have a front lawn. Either way yard sales are cost effective but not practical. With the age of growing technology and social-preneuership there are many apps available to make “out with the old and in with the new” easily accessible. I spoke about the Depop app in a previous post (There’s an App For That) and it is still one of my favorites.

Depop Market is available for iOS and android and places a store front right in your pocket. You simply take a photo and upload. You choose the price and you are done! Don’t forget to add the shipping price! I learned that the hard way and had to send some items out for free.

You can link the income to your bank or PayPal account and you are in business. Payments can be made using Debit, credit or PayPal transfers and Depop takes a small commission of sales and that is the only fee.

To promote your sale and tell your friends and followers about your business all you have to do is share the photo to your twitter, Facebook or Instagram. You can even have your own sales and coupon codes to help your customers save money and promote good business practices.

When someone makes a purchase from your shop your officially your own boss! I find PayPal and USPS to be the easiest and safest ways to process payments and ship packages.

You can pay for the shipping labels with the money from the sale directly through PayPal and print shipping labels from your computer. I even took it upon my self to stock pile priority shipping labels at home and even got a role of packaging tape so I would not have to spend time going to the post office and waiting on those long lines.

My Depop has been up for a while and I have quite a few followers but if you are new to the app I will leave some photos below showing what my page looks like to make it easier to find me.
My username is: @jessicatheeshopaholic

For those of you that are still not convinced on the app I have listed a bunch of items that are still for sale so you can see. If you are interested in purchasing but do not wish to download the app for whatever reason feel free to email me. Send all inquiries to: (theesh0paholic101@gmail.com)
Please leave item description in the subject section of the email and allow 2-3 business days for a response. There are many other items in the shop but I want to leave some pieces exclusive to the shop app.

TWELVE18 Media Private Screening

I attended the Private Screening down in Dumbo, NYC tonight featuring YouTube notables MsVaugnTV (Vaughn Monroe) HairCrush (Chime Edwards) BeautifulBrwnBabyDol (Nina) and Taren Guy. I heard about the event from Taren herself when she uploaded a photo of the four women promoting a private screening to attend the event tonight. I had been to previous events hosted by Taren before but I jumped at the chance to meet Chime Edwards a natural hair enthusiast and Ms. Vaughn; Jack and master of all trades. I had never heard of BeautifulBrwnBayDol ( I know I am getting my life as we speak) but needless to say that would all change tonight. She is my new favorite discovery. I am truly inspired by her accomplishments.

After being allowed in from the cold cruel night we were able to check our coats and shop the wonderful vendors “So Major Boutique” (top) and “I Got Pink Eye” (bottom). The ladies were very welcoming and their pieces were unique yet wearable, often at events like this you find pieces that are quirky but not practical! Both of these ladies featured unique hat designs sure to keep you fabulous and warm this winter. Being the SHOPAHOLIC that I am i had to buy a fabulous pair of earrings that caught my eye from the very beginning at So Major Boutique.

These earrings are so awesome at $15 I could not pass on these statement making drop detail gems in gold, I even ended up putting them on and wearing them for the rest of the night!

As we waited for the girls to arrive we were served tasty hors d’oeuvres and listened to music. I was able to mix sand mingle with other naturals such as myself and the event was going as expected. There were a host of cupcakes, fresh fruit and interesting vegetable and shrimp options and i was happy to be able to try them all! I love food!!! (especially the free and delicious kind)

Eventually all of the ladies arrived starting a media frenzy! They were all looking über fabulous and easily captured everyones attention. From left to right (Vaughn, Taren, Founder of Twelve18 Media, Inc. Maureen  Aladin, Nina, Chime) these ladies were ready to kick off the Private Screening.

Mums the word… We were all reminded about the importance of secrecy of the screening and the consequences of sharing the confidential information we had all been invited to receive. For those of you that missed the screening you are definitely in for good things! #SHHH

Panel Discussion

After the panel discussion and cake we were graced with a few songs by recording artist Lydia Caesar. I will insert the link to some of her music for your listening pleasure, and my personal favorite song “Overdose.”Image

I know what you’re thinking… what about the goodie bag!!! We received not one… but TWO goodie bags tonight. With the help of sponsors like Miss Jessie’s, Alikay Naturals, and Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Twelve 18 Media gifted us with some staple sample products sure to keep your coif in check this winter or try that new style you always wanted to attempt but were too afraid to try because of what people would think. We each also received some cool music to listen to! Thanks Twelve 18 Media!
