The Shopaholic Brand

I do not even remember where I was the day I decided to refer to myself as a “Shopaholic” but the name definitely stuck! I do know that this title means something to me. Shopping is not an addiction. It is an experience. I have wanted to wear my title for quite some time. I have figuratively worn this hat proudly for the last few years. I finally thought it was time to create something physical.

The first thing I did was create the logo. I was inspired by the Supreme brand and everything that it stands for. I didn’t want it to be exactly the same but still noticeable. I found an unworn champion hoodie in my styling trunk and decided to give it a test run. I created three other looks and shared the mock up on my social media platforms. I new the neon combo would not be for the faint-of-heart and originally wanted it to be one of a kind.

A friend of mine was in town this past weekend and hosted a networking event and I decided to attend. I could not wait to wear my new sweatshirt especially since the weather was hinting of rain. I paired it with my American Eagle distressed jeans and my pink Aldo pumps.

The look was a hit and all of a sudden everyone wanted the same hoodie. One rule of business that I always follow is to give the people what they want. I hate it when people make something that can’t be duplicated. I really love all the shopaholics that have stuck by me over the years and want to make sure I can give them what they want.

I have already began to fulfill orders and can’t wait until all of the supplies are in so I can begin to ship them out. I am really excited about this new business venture an even more thrilled to show you guys what’s coming next.

Until next time… Happy Shopping!

The Fashion 500: What I Wore

The Fashion 500 awards is an event that honors creatives in the fashion and beauty industry. I have attended for the past three years and each year it just gets better and better. The Fashion 500 has a very specific dress code and it is not your everyday casual party. You are supposed to dress to impress and if you don’t comply you probably won’t get in.

I don’t ever know what to wear. I spend a lot of time dressing other people and sometimes I forget to dress myself as well. I knew I didn’t want to purchase anything new and began shuffling through my closet. Revisiting old pieces and sharing them in a different way can maximize your wardrobe in he best way.

I picked up this vintage sequin dress a few years ago at one of my favorite thrift stores in lower Manhattan. I went a little vintage with the entire look and paired the dress with a wavy, wet-set bun and a bold red lip.

I live for texture and print so this look was no different! The sequins glistened in the night and I received compliments all night. Often times when it comes to dressing for an event or party you don’t need a new dress just a new perspective.

I dressed up the look with simple accessories. I stacked my fancy Kouture bracelets and rings with black and gold purse from Aldo and matching booties with a chunky gold heel. I really had a great time at the fashion 500 event. It always warms my heart to see people in my field being celebrated! I want everyone to win! I hope you guys had a great weekend and are ready to take on this new week in the new month of May! Happy Shopping!

Shopaholic Personal Style : VB x Target

The final look from my Victoria Beckham and Target collaboration is this sweet little pink sheath dress. I am a girly girl at heart and pink is my favorite color. I am a sucker for this piece because it satisfies my need for bold color and classic silhouettes.

I love layering dresses over long sleeved blouses. I think it gives the Valentino vibe. I chose a white top to highlight the accent white piping along the bottom of the dress. Layering a dress over a blouse or t-shirt is super trendy right now. I still view this style of dressing as timeless.

I had a little fun with this look and didn’t take the pairing too seriously by adding a printed wedge. I would definitely wear this outfit to a weekend brunch or business meeting in the spring and summer. I let my hair down and smiled like no one was watching.

Since my Steve Madden wedges were pretty in-your-face I decided to keep the rest of the look simple with a matching H&M necklace and simple black shades. The sunny day was perfect for a day of New York City street style.

I loved doing this Target style series and I hope you enjoyed the looks that I shared with you so far. I would love to do more style stories and I am currently planning the next one as I am writing this! I would love it if all of my readers would subscribe to stay up-to-date on all of my future posts. Until next time… happy shopping.

Shopaholic Personal Style: VB x Target Style Series

As promised I am back with a few looks that I have put together from the Victoria Beckham and Target collaboration. I have styled all three of the pieces that I purchased from target a few weeks ago and I am going to share them all with you over the next few days.

One of the things that I love most about collaborations is that they bring expensive runway styles to the everyday shopper. I love mixing high end and affordable style. When a designer also takes this concept and runs with it, it is almost always a hit.

I loved the orange romper the most and ended up wearing this on Easter Sunday. The weather was perfect and was a much needed break from the cold that seems to not want to leave New York City. I paired the look with simple accessories and my Fe Noel Floral dress worn as a duster.

This look was a hit on the streets of Brooklyn and I received nothing but compliments. The bright hues of blue and orange paired perfectly. I don’t doubt that I will be wearing this look again somewhere very soon. I didn’t want to add any more color to the already bold look so I added my flesh-toned Steve Madden heels to finish it off.

I really enjoyed this look and I hope it inspired you to style your VBxTarget merchandise as well. Even if you were not able to get anything from the collection you can still apply the underlying principle of the outfit. Pair a solid color romper, jumpsuit or dress with a floral print overcoat or duster in a similar color family. If the colors are bold keep the rest of your accessories and makeup neutral.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Like always if you want to try any of the looks please tag me on your social media @thee_shopaholic. I would love to see! If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments section. Until next time happy shopping!

Shopaholic Personal Style: It’s a Celebration

It’s the first celebration of the year… Since the ball dropped. Today I celebrated a birthday with a wonderful girl named Lacey. She took a bunch of her favorite people out to brunch in Lower Manhattan and I was so excited to have a reason to get out of the house this weekend. It always feels good to join friends to celebrate life.

As I was perusing my favorite store (my closet), another friend of mine had to remind me that it wasn’t MY birthday; and that I should keep it simple with a t-shirt and jeans. I thought it was a good idea but I knew I was going to do it my way.

I have always had an eye for creating stories using clothing. I knew I wanted to do a graphic t-shirt and distressed jeans. Both pieces were purchased from Forever 21 last year. You can always find a “guns and roses top”, you can simply enter it into google and you should be able to find something. The boyfriend jeans are a bit harder to find… I have been hunting for a pair like this that is all but destroyed and these have quickly become my favorite pair.

I spoke about the Target boots in a previous blog post and after wearing them all autumn, I can truly say these are one of the most comfortable pair of heels I have ever had. I wear them a lot when I am styling photo shoots and I’m on my feet for long hours and I have never had to take them off.

I know what you guys are thinking… “Umm where is that dope sequin blazer from? This thrifted piece may not be one of a kind, but unfortunately  I have no idea where to get another since I found it at a favorite vintage shop last year. All I can say is that the tag says Rina Z. and it was made in India.

I had a blast in the city today and I hope you enjoyed this look. In the comments below please share what you did this weekend. You can also feel free to tag me in instagram (@thee_shopaholic) I would love to see what you wore.  Until next time… Happy Shopping.

Outfit Of The Day

The autumn season would just not let go! I am forever grateful for this Indian Fall weather we have been experiencing. I took advantage of this beautiful day in New York to share a look with you guys.

It’s not that often you get the opportunity to wear open toed shoes in December. As a newyorker I am used to the cold by now. This was something I quickly threw together with some recent purchases I made towards the end of last year. I meant to share this with the Week In My Wardrobe posts but never got around to it.

I shared the details of this hunter green jacket as well as the leatherette pencil skirt a few posts back. I paired them with a transition neutral grey top and simple black sandals. The warm weather is long gone now but this look can easily be adjusted with the addition of a pair of boots and tights.

I am still getting used to having hair on my head so I wore this oversized brown fedora simply because I love hats. The starve to necklace is from fancy kouture accessories.

I hope you guys enjoyed this quick outfit and I hope to get the opportunity to share my personal style a bit more here on the blog. Please be sure to subscribe for more like this in the future. Happy Shopping!

Shopaholic Virtual Style: How To Style Fur

I want to personally wish all of my readers a Happy New Year! You guys have stuck by me for a long time and I appreciate each and everyone of you! I want to jump right into today’s post which is a “How-to” styling some of my favorite faux fur pieces.

I love the shaggy coat. I don’t gravitate toward black items often but when I do they normally have a lot of texture. I am big on details when investing in my wardrobe. I picked up this coat from H&M a few months ago and I think it adds a cool level of chic to any winter outfit.

I decided to style this piece for a night out. I kept the look glam-casual. I love the look of a graphic tee shirt paired with a sequin skirt. This look can be dressed up or down. Pairing this with a warm golden pair of pumps keeps it evening appropriate. The look is great for a winter date or club night with drinks and dancing. Keep your accessories in the same color family to take it to another level.
While on the topic of shag, a gilet is also good for building looks and layering during the colder months. I picked one up from Rainbow recently and I have yet to wear it. This can take some of the more casual outfits in your closet up a notch. Adding this piece immediately gives the illusion that you’re “put-together” even though you’re just wearing a tee shirt and jeans.

If you want to increase the sexiness of the look, put on a super low cut tee shirt and high waist distressed jeans. Pair with a strappy bra and a statement necklace to keep the attention at your neckline. Put on your favorite pair of over-the-knee boots and a bright pink fedora to finish the look. This is perfect for a brunch date with the girls or a winter concert in Madison Square Garden.

The final fur piece is not for the faint of heart. Not many people can pull off a leopard print fur coat. It is definitely a mouth full. If you like this coat you definitely have a strong personality to carry it through the streets of the city. This Bar III piece is not meant for someone who wants to blend in.

The key to styling a piece like this is to mute everything else out completely. Keep the base of the outfit neutral. This can be done with greys, denim, whites and any solid neutral that compliments your skintone. You won’t have your coat on all night so add a bit of interest to your look with a pop of color on the lips and an accessory that will keep the integrity of the look like this animal print statement necklace. You can wear this to a museum walk or see a show on Broadway.

I would love to know which of these looks were your favorite. In the comment section below let me know which one you would like to try. Until next time have a blessed year. If you haven’t already and you like what you see here don’t forget to subscribe. Happy Shopping!

Cyber Week Lookbook with Nine West

Nothing will haunt you like something you didn’t buy. This is especially true at the kick off of holiday shopping; otherwise known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As the years have past the tradition and novelty of the actual date you can participate, has long since worn off. You can shop the sales with your struggle plate in hand.

I made a conscious decision to NOT shop this past weekend. I knew that nothing good could come of me entering a store riddled with “Sale” signs. My will power game just isn’t that strong. Friday came and went. Small Business Saturday was no different, I did not shop my favorite small and black owned businesses, but I do continue to support them throughout the year.

Cyber Monday is an online shoppers dream! Every website uses calutaed signage and your email box is filled with links to your abandoned online carts with coupon codes just waiting to be used and abused. I am happy to say that I made it through. I didn’t buy ONE THING!

Just like that it was Tuesday, Cyber Tuesday or Giving Tuesday. I don’t know what made me open up the nine west website. But there it was. A pair of black over the knee boots I had been eyeing since the fall began.

These boots had been listed on the site for $169. But that Tuesday they were on sale for $84.99. How could I not? They would go back to regular price… and I would have lost the opportunity to purchase something I planned on buying anyway for an unbeatable price.

Over the knee boots make your fall and winter fashion look effortlessly chic. I have listed 3 examples throughout this post for your viewing pleasure. In the comments below, share what you purchased this cyber week. Happy Shopping.

How to Style: The  Fashion Bomber

The bomber jacket has been a standard outwear piece for men for a long time. Most recently, the bomber has become a staple in women’s fashion and a personal favorite. I love this Khaki green jacket. I am going to show you a few ways, I plan to style this bomber for the fall and winter.

Monochrome with a pop of color can be done with khaki! I paired this casual jacket with a matching long sleeve top and midi pencil skirt. Fringe boots and a bright pink fedora for brunch with the girls.

For a no fuss day of fashion a turtleneck and distressed jeans is a great warm alternative to the classic t-shirt and jeans. If you want to add glam you can always style a statement necklace like this mixed stone neutral bib. Keep the look laid back with pink sneakers. This easy going look is great for shopping in the city.

You can not go wrong with denim on denim. If you want to wear your jacket on a date just grab your favorite sexy yet simple pair of flesh toned heels. The shopaholic thing to do would be to add a fedora. Remember, if you want to kiss on the first date go with a gloss instead of a lipstick.

If you just want to walk around town and be awesome. This is one of my favorite looks! A bourdeaux  bodycon dress and funky leopard boots with a statement bucket bag. Mirrored sunglasses to block all of the stares. Did I say this was my favorite look?

Let me know which of these looks you would love to try out and if you would buy this fashion bomber jacket!

Shopaholic Style Directory: Ren Gray

I’m a brown girl that was born and raised in the South Bronx. I come from a single parent household and have always had aspirations of being successful. I’ve attained a Master’s degree in Public Administration with specialization in Human Resources and have always had the desire to give back to my community. I chose a career path in higher education, where I can help students who are accompanied by lower incomes receive financial assistance to achieve their educational goals. Although the sense of fulfillment I feel is immeasurable, I have always expressed my passion for fashion and therefore, recently created.

T H E G R A Y S T Y L E, my very own fashion blog.

If I can sum up my personal style in one word, it would be SERIOUS. I love pieces that are structured and defined in its shape. Although I like patterns and color schemes, nothing screams a woman about her business more than solid colors. It is a commanding force in any room and I find it very elegant. If there is one quote that would say sums up what I try to exude in the pieces I wear, it would be the words of Karl Lagerfeld, “A respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul”.

I am indeed a shopaholic. My mom says I have a serious problem, because I continue to buy items and I’m a homebody –lol. I seriously have items I bought years ago and still have yet to wear, tags and all.

I would have to say the Fall season is my favorite style season. I love the idea of layers and layers of clothing, boyfriend jeans, big sweaters, leather jackets, leather pants, fur, suede and I can’t forget over the knee boots… no greater combination.

To be quite honest, I get anxiety when shopping in stores with tons of people. I’m an online shopper; I’m that girl. Eighty percent of my entire closet is from Asos; skirts, dresses, white button down shirts, scarves shoes you name it or see it it’s probably from Asos. If I’m not shopping online, Zara it is. What girl doesn’t love Zara? It gives me that classic working woman feel. It’s so chic.

I like timeless pieces that are classic. I tend to deviate from the more trendy pieces because I am a saver. I shop smarter, not harder.

As far as my style inspiration, I have to give credit to MiraSlavaDuma, Instyle Editor, Kahlana Barfield Brown, Solange Knowles and Christine Centenera. They are all such classy stylish women.
