Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Stripe

I love to push the envelope when it comes to approaching everyday style. I get bored very easily so wearing things that are tricky to pull of are intriguing. If you have ever seen Beetle Juice or a vintage prison uniform you would probably never ever want to attempt this look. Fashion should be fun so I did just that.

Stripes are very tricky in general. Vertical stripes can be very slimming while horizontal stripes tend to make things look wider than they are. The key is knowing your body type. I am a true believer that there are no rules when it comes to fashion. There are however, some helpful guidelines that can help you look more visually appealing.

If you’re smaller on top then you want to wear your horizontal stripes on the top portion of your body and vice versa. If you have wide hips and you want to wear horizontal stripes then go for a thinner line pattern or one with alternating pinstripes. At the end of the day you look the best when you’re confident. If you love the way you look nothing else really matters.

If you think your outfit may or may not look like a prison uniform then give them a good pose and own it! Always put your best foot forward in fashion. Life is to short to wear boring clothes.

June’s Closet Cleansing: June Ambrose

June Ambrose hosted her second Annual Closet clear-out in New York this weekend. I missed the first one last year and swore it would never happen again! I had a blast chatting with the fashion force and shopping through her past fashion choices.

Ambrose, costume designer, celebrity stylist and author of Effortless Style is well known to the fashion world as the Muva of style. More recently June has brought us collections of her own fashion via HSN. When she announced that she was having another closet cleanse, I had to head down to see what I could get my hands on.

If you were not aware of the sale you must live under a social rock with no wifi connection! June made several announcements leading up to the sale date via her social media platforms. Several of my fashion friends also made me aware of the sale via word-of-mouth.

The fashion Muva also left hints as the days got closer as to specific items that would be available during the sale.

Once I arrived at the boutique location I was not surprised to find that there was an enthusiastic line filled with fashionistas ready to shop!

I was also excited to see that June’s most precious bug, daughter Summer Hope Chamblin was present and selling refreshing organic lemonade and cupcakes fashioned after mini hamburgers.

After supporting the young entrepreneur-ess and purchasing drinks for all of my friends I was definitely ready to shop.

I was also excited to see familiar faces on the line.

Once inside I found June to be such a gracious host. She was personable and made the time to speak to and assist everyone with their purchases and final decisions.
When I spied these Gold Gladiators from her HSN collection I just knew I had to have them. They are a great decorative piece to put up in my room and I am sure I will be able to use them to style upcoming shoots.

I also wanted to get one werable piece that I would be able to take out and about. I love this pewter bag also from her collection. I wore it out in to the city today and received lots of compliments.
I am so glad I was able to attend this years closet cleansing and look forward to more in the future!

I am happy with my purchases!

I’m happy June was able to share this experience with her June Bugs and let us shop her past.

Great Food.

Great drinks.

Great Fashion.   Signing out from the Juniverse.  Until next time… Happy Shopping!

Detail Report

You guys know I love a good detail. I like to consider details to be things that you can add to ANY outfit to bring it to the next level. This can be a hat, a necklace or a killer pair of heels. This post is going to be all about accessories. On Sunday I went to my favorite cultural venue… the mall!

My first stop was -you guessed it- H&M. I spotted a gorgeous winter white two-piece set that I just had to have. It was only 49.95 total! I couldn’t find a link to the website but check your local H&M for availability. I also spotted a cool grey hat to add to my collection. The hat was also $24.95. I’m not sure if the items haven’t made it to the site yet or if they are already sold out but if you find a link let me know. It should not be hard to find in store because they had a bunch yesterday.

My last stop was ALDO shoe store. Anyone that follows me on social media knows I love a statement item! Before all the insta-boutiques came to be I would always get my pieces from ALDO or ALDO Accessories. This particular silver piece called the Cotham Necklace is available for $40. The necklace is made very well and will be a part of my collection for a long time. I am definitely a happy shopper.

I could not wait to wear the necklace to work today so I created a look inspired but the hat and necklace.

Grey Top Hat- H&M
Blush Blazer- ZARA (Spring 2014)
White Top- H&M basic tank dress tucked in to pants.
Grey Pants- Oldnavy (about 10 years old)
Leopard Kitten Heel Shoes- Topshop (2-3 years old)

I would love to know where you guys shop for your “details!”I could not find any of the direct links to what I specifically purchased but I did link some comparable items from the same retailers for those interested. Hopefully this gave you guys some inspiration. Talk to you again soon!

Celebrity Looks For Less

I’ve been in a funk lately and was in need of some deep retail therapy so I did what any shopaholic loves to do… I went to the mall. My Gold Metallic Aldo sandals took me to my favorite store H&M. I almost always get inspired to recreate celebrity looks or tweak them and make them my own. But any true style enthusiast knows sometimes you can do that with things already in your closet, while other times you just need to purchase some key pieces to really make the look parallel the style vision. I didn’t go to the mall with that purpose in mind today but when I got home I realized That is exactly what happened.

One of the first items I picked up at H&M was a pale pink tutu (ballerina inspired dress). This dress immediately made me think of the opening credits to Sex in the City. The H&M stock site photo does the dress no justice. Even though it is not quite as fluffy as Carrie’s because it doesn’t have the tiers I feel it’s much more wearable.

H&M Pink Tule Dress- $39.95

Every woman needs a LBD (little black dress) but it’s the summer time so why not get a little white dress as well! Gabrielle Union is always wearing white so effortlessly. No matter what your silhouette I believe there is a dress for everyone. For me I like to stick to the most basic dress story’s that can be dressed up or down for maximum styling capability. Shirley (from Shirley’s Wardrobe) recently did a wardrobe clear out and she inspired me to add the LWD to my wardrobe.

H&M Basic White Dress- $12.95

I have been looking for the perfect red tartan shirt FOREVER!!! So after I left H&M I stumbled into Forever 21. The stores are beginning to get in their fall items for back to school (I know hopefully in the not so near future) and there it was. I am ready to give you guys some Beyonce cut off shorts and plaid shirt realness! And it was on SALE!

Forever 21 Plaid Button Blouse- $12

On my way to the fitting room to try on my plaid shirt I came across the cliche American flag denim shorts that became super popular after Beyonce’s Party video when the stylist placed the ever so chic Solange’s Knowles in them. Initially when I saw them in TopShop they retailed for $60 dollars and I didn’t feel they were worth the coin. So I was excited to finally get my hands on a pair for less than a third of the cost. I they were in my size so I tried them on. I’m sure you guys know what happened in the end.

American Flag Shorts- $19.80

The shorts that I tried on in the fitting room didn’t quite fit me so I had to peruse the store to find a bigger size and I came across this Tupac cutoff sweatshirt in bright yellow. I love the cutoff top trend, especially when it’s paired with high-waisted bottoms. Miley Cyrus and Rihanna are the queens of the crop top so I was happy to get my hands on this fun one!

Who is Thee Shopaholic?

A long time ago i made the decision to start a YouTube channel. I had been an avid YouTube watcher for quite sometime before I decided to make my own channel. I was a little apprehensive at first because like most people I have quite a few insecurities and making yourself more visual has a tendency to amplify those insecurities. Looking into a walking talking mirror of yourself can be a little intimidating. But I moved forward and mustered up some much needed confidence and filmed a quick intro.
At the time I had quite a few people in my life that were very encouraging. My interests if you can’t already tell by the name of this blog are shopping and fashion. I wanted my channel to reflect my interests. I also wanted it to be versatile and reflect my daily life and important information feel will be relevant to my audience. I subscribe to over 50 different YouTube channels but some of them stand out to me more than others. I drew my biggest inspiration from those channels. Shirley B. Eniang is a well known UK blogger and vlogger. I love the structure and content of her blogs and her channel content is always clear direct and to the point with just enough rambling to welcome her audience to her personality. Lisa Eldridge, Wendy’s Lookbook and Claire Marshall have an excellent technique and format and I hope to be as efficient as them one day.
I have put together some clips of highlights on my YouTube journey and I hope you guys enjoy it! More so I hope it motivates you to head over to my channel and Subscribe for more videos to come! If you have any questions for me please feel free to comment below! I appreciate all of you for taking time out of your day to read this!

Thee Shopaholic’s Personal Wish List

Since the previous post was geared towards my readers I decided to post some of the items on my personal wish list. I hope it inspires you or at the very least lets you know what to get me for Christmas XOXO.

I love to listen to R&B especially when its turned up REAL LOUD! So I can’t wait to get my hands on this Pink iHome BOOM box. It’s the perfect color (PINK) and is the perfect addition to the family of the girl that has almost everything. The box has a FM Radio and has a flexible Dock. It is portable and can be operated by D batteries. It is not documented to be compatible with the 5 or 5s iPhone but I am sure an adapter can be purchased. Either way I can still use it with my iPod touch. The iP4 Retails for $99.00 and I think its worth every penny.

Louis Vuitton Red Alma GM in Epi Leather

I have never really been a big fan of multiple purses. I rarely ever find a bag that I love. When it comes to handbags I love them to look classic, timeless and capable of being worn in any season. Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Céline (too name a few) do a great job of creating timeless bags but often come with a not so timeless price tag. I have had my eyes glued to the Alma made by Louis Vuitton in Red epi leather. I love the shape of the bag and the simple detail of the textured leather. The Alma GM retails for $2600.00. I would rather buy one bag for 2600 dollars than buy 26 bags for $100.00 each. What do you think?

Since I have decided to jump on the natural hair band wagon in January of 2012 I have been pretty much doing my hair myself (aside from the random trip to the Dominican Hair Salon and this current weave lol) I find it cost effective and quite satisfying to be self sufficient. I wanted to get a hooded drier but then I realized that my current hair texture didn’t require much heat at all! So when Ken Burkeen launched the Huetiful at home hair steaming system with face attachment for at home facials as well I knew that one day it would be mine. The icing on the cake? My favorite natural hair blogger CharyJay is featured on the box! The SHOPAHOLIC that I am just screams “Add To Cart” The Huetiful Steamer retails for $116.95

What girl doesn’t love SHOES! I know plenty of shoe-aholics out there have secretly been coveting the holy grail of shoe-dom that is Christian Louboutin. His designs range from classic and simple to bold and daring. For me the same rule applies as that of the hand bag theory. For a pump as expensive as this i choose to go with classic and timeless silhouettes. The black pump. These heels are sold at many notable retailers like Saks and Barneys so think of me when you pick up your first or next pair!

Last but not least The Pandora Bracelet. Having had my eyes on this bracelet for a while now I can safely say that the pandora bracelet is a personal fave of mine simply because of the customization factor. I love that the charm bracelet can ignite memories celebrate life love and victories or just represent friendship or love simply because of the infinite possibilities of charms and what they represent. It is the eternal gift. I have personally witnessed the never ending lines that begin to form outside of pandora jewelers locations around the holidays. But even though it is the last mentioned it is at the top of my wish list!
